Don't Write Folk Songs While Your Wife is Cleaning.

Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 11:42am
Yesterday was Janet's day off. I woke up in the morning and took the kids to school. When I came home, Janet was in the playroom, cleaning and organizing. I refer to the playroom as 'The Do Lung Bridge". Apocalypse Now fans might recall Chief's description of the Do Lung Bridge- " Chief describes the real reason for the bridge: "We build it every night. Charlie blows it right back up again."
Well I have cleaned the playroom before my friends. I've put the Polly's on the Polly shelf and Hot Wheels in the Hot Wheels box etc. It's a job that takes several hours. But it takes the kids only moments to tear it all to shreds again. So instead, I've adopted a semi-controlled chaos approach to the playroom. I make them keep the floor clear, and I clean out any garbage etc regularly. But as for keeping it organized, well, that's just like the insanity of the Do Lung bridge if you ask me.
Anyway, Janet had a day off yesterday, and when I came home from dropping off the girls she was rebuilding the Do Lung bridge. I went into my office to check e-mail, see if I had any new assignments, check the news etc, and I picked away at my guitar while I was doing this. I found a particularly nice set of chords, and a few days ago I had written a Guthrie inspired folk song. I put it to these chords and it was great, so I decided to show Janet.
I went to the Do Lung Playroom and said "check this out!'. She was down on all fours, her head in the closet, and she said "I'm listening." so I played her the song, and said "What do you think?"
And she said. "I think you could be doing something a LOT more productive with your time."
