My Poker Library
* Winner's Guide to Texas Hold 'Em
by Ken Warren; the first poker book I ever read, and highly under rated. I was winning right off the bat.
* Super System
The classic and a must read.
* The New Gambler's Bible.
Arthur S. Reber; Guide to winning at various types of gambling,games to avoid, short but comprehensive poker section
* The Biggest Game in Town
A. Alvarez; great read about the world of high stakes poker andthe people who play it
* Weighing the Odds in Texas Hold 'Em
King Lao's book. I've read computer training and microsoft certification manuals that were more fun to read. I had to plod through this piece of shit.
* The Education of a Poker Player
Herbert O. Yeardley, entertaining yarn about early 200th centurycard player. Lots of tips and advice, particularly for the road gambler.
* Zen and the Art of Poker
Larry W. Phillips; this book has greatly improved my game. I was extremely vulnerable to tilting out, this book gives you techniques to conquer yourself
* Winning Low Limit Hold Em
Lee Jones; another highly rated book; didn't do me any good
* Poker for Dummies
Lou Krieger; a more entertaining read than "bible", but lacks the meat
* Cool Hand Luke
Just barely about poker...'sometimes nothin is a real cool hand'
* Positively Fifth STreet
James McManus; Definitely in my top 20 books of all time; a reporter makes the final table of WSOP
* Dave Scharfe, Winning at Poker, Essential Hints and Tips
This guy is a local radio host and poker enthusiast. I didn't have very high expectations when I read his book, expecting a subtle rehash of Krieger. I was pleasantly surprised. One of the best books on limit poker available.
* Caro's Book of Poker Tells
The bible as far as poker tells go. This book will pay for itself again and again.
* Amarillo Slim; In a World of Fat People
One of the most entertaining books I have ever read, poker or otherwise.
* Internet Texas Hold Em
By Matt Hilger;pretty good read on limit poker, although it didn't help me. The website is great; got most of my library free through their book offers.
* The Poker Player's Bible
Lou Krieger's first book; excellent guides to all popular versions of poker with the best laid out starting hand guides of any book
* Theory of Poker
Sklansky; Great stuff on bluffing and basic concepts; over rated
* Small Stakes Hold Em.
Sklansky et al and their guide to busting the low limit game; highly rated by everyone, I must have missed something, gained nothing from this book
* Hold Em For Advanced Players
Sklansky: some valuable info; over rated imho
* Play Poker Like the Pros
Phil Helmuth's Book. Of all the books out there, probably the most likely to get a beginner making money fast.
* Killer Poker
John Vorhaus; This guy is my favorite poker authour. Entertaining to read, lots of good advice. He is also currently posting a chapter at a time of a new novel that he is writing on Ultimate Bet (I thiink).
* The Psychology of Poker
By Allan Schoonmaker. Really good book. Offers a lot of insightto why maniacs are maniacs etc, and how to capitalize on it. Kisses a lot of Sklansky butt throughout; must have to recommend Sklansky if you want 2+2 books to publish u
* Championship Pot Limit and No Limit Hold Em
Cloutier and McEvoys book, the self proclaimed bible of no limitand tourney play. Jim McManus credits this book with his success at the WSOP, as do many others. I love it. Only half done so far, and already it has paid for itself a few times.
* Harrington on Hold Em Vol. 1
Tournament Strategy by one of the masters. Smooth read, hand sample hands, not for the beginner. Very well written
* Harrington on Hold Em Vol 2
WOW!!! Possibly the best book on tourney poker I have read. Continuation bets, inflection points, and the best info on heads up play anywhere. I've made money in 5 of the last 7 multi table tourneys I played after reading this. and took a few firsts.
* Poker Strategy Winning with Game Theory
Nesmith C. Ankeny. Basic odds and probabities for draw poker.I don't play draw poker and couldn't really get into it, but if I ever do change games, this will be the first book I pick up.
* Annie Duke; How I Raised, Folded, Bluffed, Flirted, Cursed and Won Millions at the World Series of Poker
by Annie Duke. Great book, entertaining, lots of anecdotes, some tips. I have a secret crush on Annie Duke ;)
* Caro's Fundamental Secrets of Winning Poker.
Caro is always entertaining, but never practical it seems. Picture the opposite of what every other book you've read says. That's Caro's advice.
* Winning Texas Hold Em; Cash Game Poker Strategies for Players ofAll Levels, by Matt Maroon.
Terrific book on Limit Hold Em. More of a focus on concepts than starting hands which was refreshing. Enough post flop advice to give me the confidence to try limit again. No desire to though unfortunately :)
* Winning Texas Hold Em Poker
by Avery Cardoza. Following the no limit strategy in this bookmade me some phenomenal cash very quickly in my pot limit game.
* Making the Final Table, Erick Lindgren
I got really excited about this book because it had been hyped as a great tourney trainer. He talks specifically about deep stack tourney (20k chiips), a type that I have NEVER seen offered anywhere. Most of the book was kind of useless to me
* Phil Gordon's Little Green Book
I would recommend this for beginners. Not much meat for the experienced player.
* One of a Kind: the Rise and Fall of Stu Ungar
Awesome book. Stu is estimated to have won over 30 million in his various exploits, and he died penniless.
* Pot Limit and No Limit Poker
If you're tired of all the books that just re-iterate the same old shit, give this one a go. All theory, all the time, and a lot of useful little nuggets.
* Tournament Poker, McEvoy
Loved Championship Poker, figured I'd give this a whirl. Real short and to the point, good for beginners. Covers all the wsop games.
* Getting Started In Hold Em, Ed Miller
Aimed at beginner's this book has a lot going for it. The onlybook I've ever read that advocates buying in to no limit games with a short stack. Going to give Miller's short buy in strategy a shot when I move up. Lot of nuggets
